Vientos de tierra de vientos ("Winds of Land of Winds", Córdoba, Argentina, 2007) was a true madness with an unpredictable result. After two decades of work in the field of traditional and modern South American music, I wanted to rescue and showcase, through twelve tracks from the Andean cultural area, some of its timbres, textures, and rhythms, showing a tiny part of the fabulous musical and instrumental heritage that still runs through the veins of Latin American lands.
That was the intention when I entered Marcos Luna's recording studio, in the city of Córdoba, with fifty instruments, ready to record all the tracks by myself.
And I could do it. Modern recording and digital editing technologies allowed me the miracle of playing all the instruments solo on all the tracks: complete troops of zampoñas and tarkas, peasant orchestras performing wayñus and sanjuanitos, and formations playing morenadas and cuecas.
However, although the project sounded wonderful in my head, without having solid experience in recording or having done previous tests, the product turned out, to say the least, dubious. Today, looking back, I can say that there are tracks that I adore, especially the ones I composed. There are others that I quite like, especially for their arrangements, and in which I know I left intentional mistakes to ensure some authenticity. And there is a handful that I haven't listened to again out of sheer embarrassment.
In addition to being the solitary performer of the music, the arranger of those same tracks, and the composer of a handful of them, I was the sole culprit of the writings and the design that accompanied the music in the form of a booklet.
